Original articles on LEGO® pieces, sets, construction techniques and ideas brick modelMenu30 December 2020 LEGO® Botanical Collection review: 10281 Bonsai Tree As with the construction of LEGO® bricks, bonsai is the art of reproducing its theme on a much smaller scale. As such, a bonsai LEGO tree is a game made in the sky. Parts in 10281 Tree of Bonsai Toured in 10281 Bonsai TreeOpen the bags of parts, I was very surprised to greet me an army of pink frogs. Rare and remarkable pieces in 10281 Bonsai TreeBuilding 10281 Bonsai TreeFortunately, this bonsai LEGO grows much faster than its actual counterpart. Fellow New E contributed Victor Pruvost helped me to clarify what was going on by providing the following explanation and accompanying illustrations: Imagine two triangles where the hypotenuse of each is the line between the shield bars. Since both are equal, turning the upper half of the structure (in this case the trunk) 180 degrees keeps things perfectly level. But if you add or remove the plates from one of the sections, the technique will not work. It's a clean trick and something I'll take into account for future construction projects. There are a lot of leaf elements that the instructions do not instruct you to attach in a particular position. That, together with the attachments of the axis of the branches, allows a possessability and customization aspect so that you can create a model that finds aesthetically pleasing. The Bosai finished 12081 Tree It is an easy exchange and if you were to change the leaf elements with parts in red or yellow, I think you could make an incredible autumnal model with minimal effort. But the personalization of your tree doesn't need to stop there. There are three pages in the back of the manual dedicated to inspiring images by mocking the possible models you can achieve with bricks from your own collection and a little imagination. Inspiring models are really wonderful, so I started making my own custom tree. As the models shown in the instruction book, I tried not to modify too much the basic trunk of the tree. There are some connection options in the trunk- the shaft holes are an obvious place to start, but the removal of the zipper of the vine and the small branch on the side of the tree opens up some more options. Conclusion The Bonsai The tree is a charming set and I had a great time imagining different directions in which to take my small sole. It was a real pleasure to see the beautiful models created by the designer Nicolaas Vás on the pages of the manual and I hope that the builders who buy this set will follow the suit and make some equally crazy creations. Even without a large collection of its own parts, Bonsai The tree is a beautiful display piece and the reimagination of this Japanese icon in LEGO blocks is really impressive. Construction is a pleasure and I learned a couple of interesting techniques on the way. It is clear that much thought was put in the creation of the optimal angle of the trunk against the base of the pot and the placement of the branches and foliage making a beautiful LEGO plant. There is a lot to like in selecting parts also provided: some useful parts in brown and green (both bleached and returned) as well as all those pink frogs! They seem to be digging roots in the AFOL community, as more and more sets look like MOCs. Great article. I'd love to make some reviews myself, but I think I'm gonna send them that. Your Groot is a fantastic idea! That baby Groot is a pure genius! I can see a bonsai forest in my future. The curious thing about the tree is that one of the first thoughts I had about this that would work very well for a small scale design. My only concern was how the tree was transferred to the pot, and if I had to redesign the background extensively to facilitate assembly to a base plate. I think this will work a lot better than I thought, but you'll definitely need a root skirt to help you blend better. Any chance you can get the instructions for modding set on Groot baby? It's an overload of sweetness. I move to say, to go out in a member here... although generally I am sore with you, there were still parts to untie with.: D New Elementary Search Posts Support us Continue Subscribe Contact us Name Email ♪ Message ♪ Tags PostsSupportsNextSubscribe Contact usTags.
